The Western Sydney Wanderers have signed midfielder Nick Kalmar on a short-term injury replacement contract.
Kalmar was cleared to join the Wanderers, effective immediately, and commenced training with the Asian Champions on Boxing Day.
Following a training ground injury to Kearyn Baccus, Kalmar comes in as injury replacement cover for Brendon Santalab before taking up an AFC Champions League group stage contract with the club.
Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said that Kalmar has been on the club’s radar and it is an opportune time to bring him into the system before the hectic 2015 schedule.
“Nick is a quality player who we have been monitoring for some time,” Tsatsimas said.
“Kearyn’s injury is disappointing for the young man, especially given his recent performances in the A-League and at the FIFA Club World Cup.
“We have the opportunity to bring in Nick Kalmar who is a quality acquisition and he is sure to serve us well in the lead up to what will be our club’s busiest schedule to date.”
Kalmar, who commenced training on Boxing Day at Blacktown International Sportspark, will wear the number 33.
