The arts centre’s sculpture garden will host the zoomobile during these holidays on January 12.

Take the heat off trying to keep the kids entertained these school holidays and check out Campbelltown City Council’s extensive Summer School Holiday Program, which is bursting with plenty of cool ideas for keeping active and being creative during the break.

From ceramics workshops and weaving classes, to pool inflatable days, movies and just about everything in between, kids will be spoilt for choice with a variety of activities on offer throughout the city.

From our libraries to leisure centres, Campbelltown Arts Centre and school holiday care services, the program is a great starting point for parents and carers looking for different activities to help stop their kids from getting bored while school is out.

The Taronga Zoomobile is set to return to the sculpture garden at Campbelltown Arts Centre on Monday, January 12, giving kids an opportunity to see, hear and touch some of Australia’s most stunning wildlife.

For parents and carers who require care during the break due to work or other commitments, Council’s Education and Care Services provides a comprehensive, educational and fun program of events, with excursions to various local sites and specially themed days.

Make a splash at pool inflatable days Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre and The Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre in Bradbury and/or enrol the kids in an intensive learn to swim program.

Or why not check out the latest upgrades to the Campbelltown Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre? The facility is open from 10am to 3pm on Sundays, as well as weekdays during January 2-27, for holiday fun on wheels.

Council’s Library Services boasts a jam-packed holiday program and is excited to welcome bestselling children’s author and entertainer, Andy Jones, who will be hosting a special ‘What’s the Joke Show’ involving silly songs, humour and music. Don’t miss Andy’s antics when he performs at HJ Daley Library and the Greg Percival Library on January 20. Cost is $2.

Eagle Vale Library will  host a ‘Teen Chefs’ no-cook cooking class, with a pop-up kitchen and chef teaching young people how to create delicious meals and desserts with little fuss.

In celebration of this year’s Summer Reading Club, each library branch will host a party for participants on January 22, complete with games and prizes.

If your kids enjoy reading or watching DVDs, remember to take advantage of the library’s extended and unlimited loan period. Until January 23, library customers can borrow an unlimited number of items for an extended period of six weeks. This is a great way to keep entertained for less!

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said the summer school holidays were the ideal time to learn something new, be inspired or simply have fun.

“With such a diverse program of events and activities, kids can be entertained, educated and engaged all in one – all you need to do is book early to avoid  disappointment,” Cr Lake said.

“This year, to further assist families looking for things to see and do, Council has put together a list of 40 free or low cost things for kids to do that will help keep them entertained. Featuring loads of local attractions, facilities and outdoor experiences – there’s something for kids of all ages, and it won’t break the bank.

“Spend the holidays ticking off the list or save some ideas for a rainy day when you’re looking for something to do in your local area,” Cr Lake added.

Some of the 40 fun things to do include:

Can you count the number of Koi fish in the stream at the Campbelltown Arts Centre’s Japanese Gardens?

Can you find the statue of Elizabeth Macquarie watering her irises in Mawson Park?

Go green and join in a Little Explorers Workshop at the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living.
