The establishment of the Camden Region Economic Taskforce is set to play an integral role in driving economic growth, says Camden Council.
The taskforce will be a company limited by guarantee and will be a separate entity from council.
Its sole focus will be on economic growth across the region.
The establishment of the Taskforce as a separate company will provide a skills-based board of directors, maximising the use of expertise and abilities of local business leaders.
It will allow the Taskforce to be flexible enough to be able to respond quickly to opportunities as they arise.
The main goal is to identify, secure and realise opportunities to attract investment, deliver infrastructure and support job creation as well as grow both existing and future business and industry in Camden.
“With the significant growth that we are experiencing, it makes sense to seize upon and maximise the opportunities that come with it through the establishment of the taskforce,’’ the council says.
“It is hoped that through the leadership and advocacy of the taskforce that we will have a strong and positive influence in facilitating the development of the Camden region.’’
With endorsement from the Office of Local Government and ministerial approval, council will conduct a recruitment process after this Saturday’s elections for independent directors to join the Board of the Camden Region Economic Taskforce.
Once selected, council will work with the directors to create key performance indicators to ensure that appropriate levels of specification, documentation and evaluation are provided.
The Camden Region Economic Taskforce is a key council initiative of the Small Business Friendly Councils Program and will assist in the implementation of the Camden Community Strategic Plan, Camden 2040, as well as the Camden Economic Development Strategy.
