Camden Council is taking an active role in this year’s History Week to provide the community with plenty of opportunities to celebrate the region’s past.

The Camden Council Library Service has partnered with Camden Historical Society and Camden Area Family History Society to run a local program for the duration of the week, which is during September 3-11.

“Council’s annual participation in History Week demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the Camden community, who take immense pride in the area’s history and cultural heritage,’’ said the mayor, Cr Lara Symkowiak.

“I am pleased that the theme for this year is Neighbours. Neighbours play such a vital role in the interconnectedness of the Camden community.’’

Events and activities include:

• A community of neighbours 4.30pm this Thursday, September 8, and 3pm on Sunday, September 11 – tours of St Paul’s Cobbitty cemetery. Gold coin donation on the day. Wear walking shoes.

• Cowpastures and Beyond from this Friday to Sunday, September 9-11, Camden Civic Centre – family history conference. Friday free public day with ancestry.com, Trove and 38 stalls. Saturday and Sunday paid registration with speakers including Alan Atkinson. Click here for bookings and information.

• Sharing recipes 7.30pm next Wednesday, September 14, Camden Museum. Show and tell family recipe books &and memories of meals and cooking. Bring a plate of food made from the book. Free, no bookings.

• The ‘Camden then and now Macphotogroup exhibition of photographs at Camden Library, Narellan Library and online here will run beyond History Week until 30 September.

Macphotogroup will pair old images of people and places with new images of the same scene and display each pair in its own frame.
