Rain to the rescue as Ghosts batsmen fall in a heap

Campbelltown Camden Ghosts will be trying to win their first match of the 2020-21 cricket season when they host Eastern Suburbs this Saturday in a limited overs clash.

Play in the round five clash will start from 10am at Raby Sports Complex – weather permitting.

At present the forecast is for some rain on Saturday.

The rain came to the rescue of the young Ghosts last Saturday when they were staring down the barrel of another defeat at Old Kings Oval, Parramatta.

The home side won the toss and invited the Ghosts to bat first, a call which turned out to be a very good one in the conditions.

Ghosts were quickly all out for just 99 off 32.4 overs, with 22 the top score for the side.

The Ghosts will be back at Raby this weekend.

Jackson Isakka spent almost an hour at the crease for his 22 runs, while Luke Webb was undefeated on the same number when the last Ghosts wicket fell at 99.

Brock Laranace chimed in with 18 runs, but that was about it as far as the batting was concerned for the Ghosts.

Mercifully the arrival of rain rescued the Ghosts and play was called off with the home side 2 for 30 from 13.2 overs.

Webb and Sam Skelly took a wicket each for the visitors, who would have been relieved to escape with a draw and one premiership point

Now they will be looking forward to returning home and – hopefully – some sunshine this Saturday at Raby.

But most of all they will want to win one for the first time this season.
