Members of the Pasifika community in outer South Western Sydney are encouraged to drop-in and get vaccinated for Covid-19 closer to home, with a new walk-in AstraZeneca clinic opening at Catherine Park on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

No appointment is necessary to visit the clinic at Catherine Park Community Centre, 55 Catherine Park Drive, which will complement six other mobile clinics recently set up in south western Sydney in response to the current outbreak.

GP and Samoan community leader Dr Olataga Alofivae-Doorbinnia said vaccination was the key to preventing serious disease and to protecting individuals, their loved ones and the wider community from Covid-19.

“Prevention is better than a cure. If more people are vaccinated, we will be able to enjoy more freedoms in the future,’’ says Dr Alofivae-Doorbinnia.

South Western Sydney Local Health District chief executive Amanda Larkin said cultural support workers were also available at the walk-in clinic.

“We have also opened walk-in mobile vaccination clinics in six locations across South Western Sydney to provide more opportunities for our community to come forward and get vaccinated,’’ Ms Larkin said.

“The District is continuing to take a leading role in the vaccine rollout across South Western Sydney and I thank all of our staff for their efforts to bring vaccination to the community and our residents for coming forward to receive the vaccine.’’
