The Camden Rams are the biggest local rugby league club across Macarthur and the Southern Highlands.
Last Saturday they celebrated a massive 40 year reunion at their home ground, Kirkham Park, after the conclusion of competition matches in the Under 18s, reserve and first grade.
The celebration later moved to the premises of the major club sponsor, the famous Plough and Harrow pub in the heart of Camden’s main street, Argyle Street.
According to multiple sources, the three 17 year old teenage boys charged a few days later with alleged sexual assault offences involving a 17 year old teenage girl, play for the Rams and were present during the 40 year celebrations on Saturday evening.
All three teenage boys live in Camden. Two attend St Gregory’s College in Campbelltown and the third Elderslie High School.
The South West Voice has tried to contact the Camden Rams rugby league club for a response to their players being charged with sexual assault and the club’s policy on women.
The club did not return our calls by the time we published this story.
St Gregory’s College on the other hand sent a letter to parents from principal Matthew Brennan the day after charges were laid.
“I am very sorry to have to share the following news with our community,” Mr Brennan said.
“As this is an ongoing criminal investigation and before the courts, it is important that we do and say nothing that could compromise those independent processes.
“We express our deep concern for the young woman police have said was the victim of the alleged sexual assault, and her family and loved ones.”
Brennan said sexual violence had no place at the college.
“It is abhorrent, what is alleged by police, and is the antithesis of what we stand for and the values that we embrace,” he said.
“These are very serious of allegations and the judicial process must now be allowed to take its course free of any commentary.
“We ask everyone to avoid speculation or sharing of information that could impact the parties involved or the independent process now under way.”
Police were told on Sunday, August 16 that a 17-year-old girl had allegedly been sexually assaulted by three teenage boys the previous day at a home in the Camden area.
Three days later, on Wednesday, August 19, three boys all aged 17 were arrested at separate locations and taken to Camden Police Station.
One was charged with 11 offences, including aggravated sex assault in company with others and sexual intercourse without consent.
Another accused was charged with eight offences, including aggravated sex assault in company, and sexual intercourse without consent.
The third boy was charged with two counts of aggravated sex assault in company with others.
The trio were refused bail to appear before a children’s court yesterday (Thursday).
