In a victory for local residents, one of the NSW Planning Assessment Commission panel members listed to determine the Moorebank Materials Recycling Facility application has been forced to step down.

In a media statement released last night, PAC said:

“The Commission has recently received a number of complaints from the public regarding one of the nominated members appointed to determine the application,’’ PAC said in a statement last night.

“In response to perceived conflict of interest concerns, Mr John Cook has stepped down from the Commission to determine the application.

“The Commission will be constituted by Ms Lynelle Briggs AO (Chair) and Mr Garry West.

“Pending availability, a third member may also be appointed.

“The Planning Assessment Commission’s webpage for the project has also been updated.’’

Residents opposed to the proposed recycling facility ramped up their opposition when they held a successful protest meeting at Georges Fair on the weekend, which was attended by mayor Ned Mannoun, Holsworthy MP Melanie Gibbons and other councillors.
