The Campbelltown community has raised an impressive $60,670 at the 2019 Mayor’s charity gala dinner to support Special Olympics Macarthur athletes and volunteers.
On the weekend, 180 people from local businesses, community groups and individuals dug deep to support the organisation at the Hollywood themed event held at the Campbelltown Arts Centre.
The money raised will go directly to the Campbelltown-based organisation to help provide training and competition opportunities for people with an intellectual disability.
Mayor of Campbelltown, George Brticevic said he was touched by the generosity of the community on the night, which is an annual event that raises money for local causes.
“When you see so many people come together to support an organisation like Special Olympics Macarthur, it makes you even more proud to be part of this remarkable community,” Cr Brticevic said.
“These athletes can now represent the region at the state, national and international sports stage knowing that they have our support,” he said.
Council has also purchased new uniforms for the athletes and a trailer to help the volunteer led organisation store and transport equipment.
“I’d like to thank Ann Massey from Special Olympics Macarthur and all the volunteers for the work they do to keep the organisation running,” he said.
“I’d also like to thank all our sponsors, especially platinum sponsor Charter Hall and gold sponsor Dahua Group.’’
Charter Hall, the owners of Campbelltown Mall, pledged $35,000 to help send athletes to compete internationally.
