Meet the Mayor Mondays kicks off at Minto Mall

Wherever you live in Campbelltown, if you go shopping on a Monday morning, look out, you may soon be shaking hands with the Mayor of Campbelltown, Darcy Lound.

In his first major initiative since taking the reins of office last October, Mayor Lound this week launched Meet the Mayor Mondays.

Long before he became mayor, Cr Darcy Lound was referred to as the “mayor of Minto’’ because that suburb is where he lives with his family, and he knows it like the back of his hand.

So it was appropriate that the first outing of Meet the Mayor Mondays took place at his local shopping centre, the famous Minto Mall, on Monday, naturally.

The South West Voice popped down there a little after halfway through the event, which was scheduled for between 10am and 12 noon, and watched Mayor Lound as he shook hands and had a chat with local residents.

Some people just wanted to get their photo with him, while others just said “g’day, Darce’’ as they walked past the spot where the council staff had set up for the Meet the Mayor Mondays initiative.

When an opportunity arose, close to noon, we grabbed the Mayor and asked him how the initiative was going so far, considering it was the first time.

“Good, it’s going well,’’ Mayor Lound said. “it’s all about listening to the concerns of the residents.

“It’s so pleasing that people care enough to approach and talk to me about things the council needs to get onto.

“A few suggestions about maintenance of our roads, including near here, along Ben Lomond Road, past Eagleview Road,’’ he said.

“It’s the basics the people are interested about.

“But it wasn’t all critical, with a couple of them coming up and saying they thought the council is doing a good job,’’ Mayor Lound said.

After thanking the Mayor for talking to us, we also jumped in and got a photo with him, as it appears above…
