The Albanese Government has announced that if re-elected it will spend $1 billion to secure future rail corridors not just between Leppington and Bradfield, but also between the Bradfield City Centre and booming suburbs in the Macarthur region.
It says the Leppington to Bradfield connection is a missing link on Sydney’s rail network, joining the new Western Sydney International airport to outer South Western Sydney.
Member for Macarthur Michael Freelander said he was pleased that the Labor Government he is a member of is delivering for South West Sydney’s future.
“The booming suburbs of South West Sydney have grown under the promise of future rail connections, but under previous governments they never came,’’ he said.
“Now we’re putting in the work to preserve these vital rail corridors so our region can have the future public transport connections it needs and deserves.
“Leppington station is a stone’s throw from Bradfield and the new airport, it’s madness that there’s no rail link between the two growing regions,’’ Dr Freelander said.
Once secured with the $1 billion investment commitment, the land corridors will pave the way for Metro or Sydney Trains network extensions, that would give passengers and workers at Sydney’s new airport easy rail access to Sydney’s south west, and onwards to the Sydney CBD.
Timelines for delivery of preservation work will be finalised with the NSW Government.
“Today, we’re delivering on that – investing $1 billion to start planning the rail connection Sydney’s new airport should have had.
“This means residents of Sydney’s south west will no longer have to rely on buses to get to the airport, they’ll have fast, frequent rail access instead.”
Trying to gain votes by promising something that should have been well advanced by now. How long did the Rouse Hill to Central Metro take from initial planning to completion?
As they say ‘better late than never’ however anything inside a 15-year project would be a win for the South West.
In the meantime Macarthur and Leppington Railway Stations can’t cope with the urban sprawl current and proposed (Appin, Menangle, Wilton being satellite suburbs with no trains with commuters having the extremely busy Camden Valley Way as their ‘work commute alternative’).
Rickard Rd extension has been promised for many many years from Leppington station through to Oran Park Drive to take some buses and cars off Camden Valley Way and it still isn’t built.
Millions of dollars have been spent on this study, that study, and nothing’s happened.
Would you be able to follow up, we cannot get any answers, no one knows or don’t want us to know.
Thank you
I am sure the Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty, can tell you what the situation is regrading Rickard Road.
