Every year the Macarthur nature photography competition results in brilliant images of pristine bushland, unique wildlife and scenic waterways.
It also helps to remind us what treasures of nature exist right here in our own backyard.
If you’re good with a camera and love our bushland this is your chance to show the rest of us what you can do – after all, there’s more than $5,000 in prizes up for grabs.
Entries are open until Friday, September 29.
The regular competition themes are back in 2017, with a focus on waterways, native flora and fauna, nature up close and environmental impact.
Last year’s two new categories, Snap A Selfie and Hollows As Homes, also return this year.
Snap A Selfie encourages residents to snap themselves getting into nature and post their photos to Facebook with the hashtag #snapMNPC.
A $100 Macarthur Square gift card is on offer for the person who can post the most selfies in nature.
Hollows as Homes runs in partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens, and entrants who capture a photo of a tree hollow, an animal using a tree hollow, or an animal using an artificial nest box, will be in the running to win $100 cash and a family pass to Symbio Wildlife Park.
There are two age categories (young people: 15 years and under; and open: 16 years and over), making the competition accessible to enthusiasts of all ages, in addition to prizes for best overall primary school and best overall high school.
Macarthur’s three councils, Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly, run the competition.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, is urging all budding photographers, seasoned snappers and nature lovers to enter.
He said the competition not only highlighted the Macarthur region’s natural beauty, but the importance of respecting and protecting our natural areas.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Macarthur has some very talented photographers, as the high standard of entries in past years has reflected, and I’m looking forward to seeing the best of our beautiful region through their lens,” he said.[/social_quote]
Council’s spring into nature walk and talk series, with events during September taking in bushland areas like Simmo’s Beach Reserve and Dharawal National Park, will provide participants with additional inspiration for their entries.
Macarthur nature photography competition entries can be submitted online with an $11 fee per image to cover printing and mounting (excluding Snap A Selfie category), or entrants can print and mount their own photograph and submit it at their local council.
