The State Government says it will spend $6 million for a safety review and improvements on the Hume Highway between the intersection with Camden Valley Way in Casula and Parramatta Road in Strathfield.
The project was announced by the Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads, Ray Williams, and Member for Menai and candidate for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons earlier this week.
The safety review would consider a number of factors such as congestion, crossing safety, line marking, signage, and traffic conditions.
“This highway is notoriously unsafe – with 15 fatalities on the 30 kilometre stretch of road from 2008 to 2013,” Mr Williams said.
“There has been continuing community concern over the safety of motorists and pedestrians using this road,” Ms Gibbons said.
“The traffic study will help identify all of these issues and put in place measures to ensure road users are safe and getting where they need to go on time.’’
