Campbelltown Camden District Cricket Club remain on top of the Sydney first grade premiership after a solid win at Chatswood against Gordon on the weekend, reports JASON ELLSMORE.

In a one day fixture, the Ghosts chased down the Gordon total of 8-243 comfortably, winning with two overs to spare and six wickets in hand.

Gordon won the toss and showed early signs of posting a reasonable total, losing their second wicket at 135.

However, the Ghosts bowlers toiled hard and soon reined in the Gordon bats with some tight bowling.

Pick of the bowlers were Jarred Lysaught, 3/35, and Jordon Browne, 2/40, who were well supported by English wicket keeper Oliver Pope, who figured in three Gordon dismissals.

As per prior matches, the Ghosts got away to a good start with openers Aaron Yabsley and Mitchell Carruthers again setting a solid platform for the Ghosts top order.

Averaging 70 run partnerships at the top of the innings this season, Carruthers departed with the score on 56, and Yabsley soon after for 36.

This brought the Ghosts prolific run scorer Phillip Wells to the crease with Surrey batsman Ollie Pope.

Together they added 159 runs as Wells brought up his 9,000th first grade run in Sydney.

Wells was again unlucky being dismissed LBW in the nineties for a second time in a month, falling narrowly short of achieving his twenty first century in first grade premier cricket.

His 97 runs contained 13 boundaries.

With Wells in the sheds, Pope steered the Ghosts home on a declining Chatswood pitch.

The 19-year-old finished unbeaten on 72 as the Ghosts passed Gordon’s 243 four wickets down.

Next Saturday first grade cricket returns to Raby in the one-day format.

A win against Manly would ensure the Ghosts head into the back half off the season with plenty of momentum on top of the ladder.
