Airds incident: 21 year old allegedly assaulted police officer

A man will face court today charged with allegedly assaulting an officer who was trying to arrest him.

The 21 year old man was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with resisting an officer in the execution of duty as well as assaulting an officer in the execution of duty,

He was also charged with breach of bail.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court later today (Saturday, December 9).

Police say that officers attached to Bankstown Police Transport Command were patrolling Riverside Drive, Airds when they saw a man, believed to be wanted on an outstanding warrant, in a nearby street.

The officers turned into Haddon Rig Place and saw a Holden Commodore take off, with police attempting to stop the vehicle.

A short time later the car being pursued stopped near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Boonoke Place, Airds.

Police attempted to speak the driver and passengers of the vehicle, before asking a 21-year-old man to get out of the vehicle.

The man became aggressive and allegedly attempted to punch an officer.

As police were arresting the man, he allegedly began to resist, and kicked out at one of the officers.
