South west Sydney MP Chris Hayes (Fowler) will host a forum on the rollout of the NDIS on July 4.

“People who live with disability have enough to contend with without having to deal with the issues currently being experienced with the rollout of the NDIS, in particular the online portal,” says Fowler MP, Chris Hayes.

“I am told the NDIS portal is not user friendly, particularly for people from non-English speaking backgrounds.

“My electorate is home to more than 50 percent of individuals from a non-English speaking background so it is imperative the system is streamlined to make the transition easier,’’ Mr Hayes said.

“The concept of the NDIS is brilliant, it will change the lives of many but there is something missing in terms of the lack of staff and training that has resulted in many having to wait weeks for their care packages to be approved.’’

On Tuesday, July 4, Mr Hayes will host the Fowler NDIS Forum at the Cabramatta Bowling Club from 10am.

The forum will provide the opportunity for residents to learn more about the National Disability Insurance Scheme, given the program is still in its infancy, since it was nationally rolled out less than a year ago on July 1, 2016.

The Director Engagement, NSW Central region of the National Disability Insurance Agency, Ms Mary Hawkins, will attend the forum, which will include a Q&A session.

“The community will have the chance to become better informed about the National Disability Insurance Scheme and what it involves,’’ Mr Hayes said.

“Without a collective voice, governments may not be aware of issues and this forum is an opportunity for all to voice their concerns,” Mr Hayes said.

“The NDIS forum that I am hosting on July 4 will bring to the fore the issues people are experiencing.

“I want to hear the good and the bad and I would encourage everyone to come along and have their say.”

♦ Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided at the forum and bookings are essential. RSVP to Alex Glumac by email at alex.glumac@aph.gov.au or by contacting the Electoral Office on 9726 3988 by next Friday, June 16.
