The recently released Campbelltown 2022 report contains a list of major residential projects planned or under construction.
Top of the list is Lend Lease’s Figree Hill located on Appin Road, just a few kilometres from Rosemeadow.
The report notes that 3300 homes are planned to be built at Figtree Hill by 2032.
Lend Lease, in response to a number of questions from the South West Voice in Macarthur, says the first residents will be moving in “throughout 2024’’.
Construction work at present is focused on stage one of Figtree Hill, with approvals in place for around 1700 dwellings.
“Subject to market demand, we expect the Figtree Hill community to take approximately five to 10 years to develop, which will be delivered over several stages,’’ says a Lend Lease spokesperson.
With the main entrance off Appin Road, questions have been asked how this notorious stretch will cope with the extra traffic that will come as more and more residents move in at Figtree Hill.
Lendlease says it’s working with the NSW Government to improve safety along Appin Road for motorists and wildlife.
“Planning is currently under way to deliver a 5.4-kilometre road safety upgrade between Mount Gilead and Ambarvale, which includes intersection upgrades, widening part of the road from two to four lanes, and construction of new intersections to provide access to the Figtree Hill community,’’ the spokesperson said.
The Figtree or Gilead property is also a critical part of the local koala colony and local environmentalists have demanded the company provide for both wildlife corridors within the development, as well as overpasses and underpasses on Appin Road.
“As part of the government’s planned safety upgrade between Mount Gilead and Ambarvale, Lendlease has proposed to construct two wildlife underpasses and additional fauna fencing to increase protection for the local koala population and has submitted an Addendum Review of Environmental Factors for the proposal,’’ the spokesperson said.
“Subject to planning approval, Lendlease will commence construction in early 2023.’’
Lend Lease says local buses will connect the Figtree Hill community through to Macarthur Square and the railway station.
Macarthur Square is owned and operated by Lend Lease.
“Future routes will be planned around the road network and surrounding area,’’ the spokesperson said.
Lendlease says it is also working with the NSW Government on delivering a school for the new community, which is subject to planning approvals.
In the meantime, civil works are well under way on-site with stages 1A and 1B currently under construction.
Road excavation and stormwater pipes installation are nearing completion.
Retaining walls are progressing and kerb and gutter construction has commenced, while ecological conservation works are continuing across more than 22 hectares of protected conservation land.
“This year has been a major milestone for the Figtree Hill project with the start of construction and launch of the first sales releases which have continued to receive strong interest,’’ the spokesperson said.
“Figtree Hill residents and the wider Campbelltown community will be able to enjoy over 35 hectares of open green space including six state-of-the-art parks and play areas, picnic areas and a community centre.
“As the community grows, local retail and speciality stores will also be delivered.
“There will be 6km of interconnected walking and cycling paths throughout the Figtree Hill community to encourage an active lifestyle.’’
