Police have released this CCTV image as they appeal for information into a carjacking that included the assault of an elderly couple in South Western Sydney last week.

The incident took place when a man asked for a lift after helping the couple with their groceries at a shopping centre in Casula.

While in the car, the 81-year-old woman driving the car noticed the man steal her phone from her handbag, before pulling over on Kurrajong Road, Casula, and asking him to leave.

The man got out of the car before assaulting the woman and getting back in the driver’s seat, fleeing the scene with the 90-year-old man still in the vehicle.

A short time later, the man assaulted the 90-year-old, before pushing him out of the vehicle on Grimson Road, Liverpool, and fleeing the scene in the car – a gold Nissan Micra.

Emergency services attended, where NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 90-year-old for facial injuries.

He was taken to Liverpool hospital in a stable condition.

As inquiries continue into the incident, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command have released CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 50 to 55 years old, of average build with short dark hair and light stubble.

He was wearing a black, long sleeve jacket, grey tracksuit pants, black slides and a black cap.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
