When it comes to how much effort some people put into decorating their home with Christmas lights, the word “amazing’’ comes to mind.

Awesome would be another way to describe them.

And if any proof were needed about how good threse displays are, check out two of the winners from this year’s Camden Christmas lights competition.

Not everybody has got the time or the inclination to go to so much trouble, but they deserve our gratitude.

There’s no doubt it’s one of the modern joys of Christmas seeing such homes as we drive around for work or shopping.

And we get to enjoy the effort of such people for free –  and as we all know the best things in life are free.

The annual Camden Council Christmas lights competition invited residents to enter their dazzling displays to go into the running to win a share of $1,200 in gift cards.

The 2022 Camden winners, who will share $1200 in gift cards, were:

Best Lit house – Rochester Street, Gregory Hills;

Best Lit house runner up – Swansona Avenue, Mount Annan;

Best novelty display – Donahue Circuit, Harrington Park;

Best novelty display runner up – Jenolan Circuit, Harrington Park;

Best Commercial/Non-Residential – Macarthur Automative Service;

Best commercial/non-residential runner up – Catherine Field Rural Fire Brigade;

Best street – Walseley Crescent, Gledswood Hills;

Best street runners up – Swansona Avenue, Mount Annan and The Rapids, Mount Annan.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the number of amazing displays across Camden has lit up the region.

“Christmas is such a beautiful time of year, and it is beautiful to see so many of our residents get into the Christmas spirit and decorate their homes,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Our judges truly had a difficult time deciding who our winners were this year which is testament to the effort our entrants put into their displays.

“I would like to congratulate all of our winners and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.’’
