The departure of Jed Drew and Oliver Jones means three young players have so far left Macarthur FC this season to pursue their football dreams overseas.

Ariath Piol was the first to be given the blessing of the club a few weeks ago.

Now Jed Drew, pictured above, and Oliver Jones are also heading to Europe.

Their departure will put some pressure on the depth of the Bulls, but skipper Valere Germain says he can see why they would jump at an opportunity in Europe.

“For them, they are young players, so it’s a good opportunity to take. For the club, it’s a big loss, but at least it’s a good opportunity for them,” the Frenchman said ahead of the club’s big game tomorrow (Saturday, February 1) across the ditch against Auckland FC.

Germain revealed he had a special bond with speed demon Jed Drew.

“We had a good relationship off of the pitch as well as on the pitch,’’ he said.

“He gave me a lot of assists and every day I try to speak to him to help him improve because I think he has a lot of quality,” Germain said.

A product of the Bulls FC Academy, Drew has enjoyed a standout season in the A-League, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in just 13 appearances.

He made a total of 83 appearances in the club colours, scoring 17 goals, along with 16 assists.

“My time at the Bulls has been unbelievable, I’m so grateful for the club giving me a chance and to give me my debut a couple years back was such a good feeling,” he said.

“My favourite memories would be winning the Australia Cup this year and my first A-League goal against the [Central Coast] Mariners.

“I’ve made some friends for life, that’s for sure -especially Valere and Lachie Rose, even though he has left the club.”

While three young players are chasing their football dreams and have departed the club, it hasn’t all been one way traffic.

Earlier this week the Bulls announced the signing of central midfielder Peter Makrillos, who will bring a wealth of experience to the side.

This will be the first A-League stint for Makrillos, 29, who has played for three K-League clubs.

“I’m really excited to be playing in the A-league, it’s been a goal of mine for a long time so I’m really happy to get started,’’ Makrillos said.

“This club is close to where I grew up, and when it got founded, it was really something close to my heart.”
