Campbelltown Council gets the biggest grant in the south west region

More than $37 million has been granted to councils across Macarthur thanks to the Australian Government’s Financial Assistance Grant program.

Federal Member for Macarthur Russell Matheson said the Macarthur electorate covered five different Local Government Areas and each had received funding under the grant program.

“These grants are part of the government’s commitment to supporting local communities to deliver the services and facilities they need,” Mr Matheson said.

“Councils are free to spend this funding according to local priorities, including infrastructure, health, recreation, environment, employment and roads projects.

“I encourage local councils in Macarthur to target local priorities with this funding, along with the additional funding provided by the Federal Government under the Roads to Recovery, Black Spot and Bridges Renewal programs.”

The first quarterly payment for 2014-15 has been made to Camden, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Penrith and Wollondilly councils.

A further $9.3 billion will be delivered to Local Governments from 2014-15 to 2018-19 through the Financial Assistant Grants programme to deliver services and build community infrastructure.

The Federal Government is providing $2.3 billion to local councils nationwide in 2014-15, including $715.7 million to NSW councils.

South west region councils inside Mr Matheson’s Macarthur electorate will receive the following funding under the Australian Government’s Financial Assistance Grant program:

  • Camden: $3.1 million;
  • Campbelltown: $10.2 million;
  • Liverpool: $9.3 million;
  • Wollondilly: $3.4 million.
