Breakfast with Chris Minns at Menangle Country Club

Nothing is ever certain in politics, but Labor leader Chris Minns must be feeling fairly confident that by April next year he will be NSW premier.

He is leading in the polls so far, and he is up against a government that is almost 12 years old and arguably showing its age.

One of the things Minns says he will do if elected is maintain the status quo on stamp duty and give the land tax option favoured by the current government the flick.

But who is the man who looks likely to win the next state election early next year and what else does he have in store for Macarthur and the rest of the state?

Business people in the Macarthur region will have the opportunity to get to know Mr Minns a little better when he appears at a breakfast function later this month at Menangle Country Club.

The leader of the opposition, pictured above with Camden Labor candidate Sally Quinnell and Dr Mike Freelander, will be the special guest at the breakfast being organised by the Greater Narellan business chamber and the Campbeltown chamber of commerce.

Mr Minns, who is the state member for Kogarah, will be speaking at the breakfast, and it is tradition at such functions for a Q&A from the floor.

For those planning to attend the breakfast, here’s a quick profile: Chris Minns was born and raised in the St George area. He previously worked in politics, the charity sector and briefly as a retained firefighter while completing his studies.

He joined the Labor Party in 1998 when he was 18 years old and was elected as the Member for Kogarah in 2015.

Mr Minns has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New England and a master’s degree from Princeton University in the United States, where he won a full scholarship to complete his studies.

He is married to Anna, a businesswoman and lawyer and is the father of three boys, Joe, 14, Nick, 11 and George, 5.
