The challenge during school holidays these days is not finding something to do that the kids will love.
It’s choosing what to do because there is just so much around the great south west region, from Campbelltown to Liverpool and most of it is free.
No need to head to the city like we used to in the old days – there is arguably more happening in our backyard than in the big smoke.
For example Fashion Spree in The Grove Liverpool – off Cumberland Highway – offers free school holiday activities such as a fascinating butterfly house.
Let Butterfly Skye introduce you and your child to an exciting, fun and hands on experience with Australia’s unique portable Butterfly House.
Touch, hand feed and interact with different butterfly species while learning all about their life cycle and anatomy between 11am and 2pm from Wednesday, September 28 to Saturday, October 1, outside the Glue Store, near Café Spree.
Plus there will be free face painting on Sunday, October 2 between 12 noon and 4pm outside the Smiggle store near the main entrance, and again the following Sunday October 9.
Something else local parents may consider that’s on offer at Fashion Spree are free Crayola Creative Workshops.
Join the Crayola Team to create 3D chalk drawings on easels with your own amazing effects to make “popping out” art wearing 3D glasses.
Each child will be given a free Colour Alive book worth $7.99 to take home.
These unique colouring in books literally come to life when viewed through the Crayola app on android or iPhones and IPads.
Crayola workshops will be on from Wednesday, October 5 to Saturday, October 8 between 11am and 2pm, outside the Glue Store.

♦ Campbelltown City Council’s spring school holiday program also offers many exciting activities for local kids, from acting classes to arts and crafts, a day at the movies, and even fun pool inflatable days.
Indeed there’s plenty of free and low-cost options to keep the kids entertained in any weather.
Families can plan a visit to the Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre too – it’s open on Sundays and weekdays during the holidays.
School holiday care is also an option, with a host of fun activities and excursions at both holiday care centres.
