naidoctwoMacarthur will join regions across Australia to celebrate NAIDOC Week during July 5-12.

Events across the region will be aimed at bringing the community together to share in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, heritage and community.

This year’s theme – We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate – is in recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ strong spiritual and cultural connection to land and sea, and highlighting the anniversary of the return of Uluru to its traditional owners 30 years ago.

It also honours those who work tirelessly to preserve land, sea and culture, and to share the stories of many sites of significance and sacred places with the nation says NAIDOC. (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee)

Highlights include a flag raising ceremony from 10am on Monday, July 6, followed by a street march and community gathering at Bradbury Oval from 11am.

In partnership with Macquarie Fields Police, a NAIDOC touch football competition will be held on Wednesday,July 8 at Minto, including a lunch and activities for children and families.
