A brazen thief pulled out a gun when he was challenged by a member of the public who saw him stealing in a Campbelltown park last night.

The incident took place at around 9.10pm (Monday, June 26) at Stromeferry Reserve, St Andrews, which is located adjacent to busy Raby Road.

At the time of the incident a number of tag league games were being played on the fields across Stromeferry Reserve.

At the completion of the games, a number of people who were packing away noticed a man dressed in black with a black ski mask and black hood stealing a kit bag containing a portable EFTPOS machine and a tin with an amount of cash.

They also saw the hooded man steal a league tag referee’s bag containing an iPhone7 and a wallet.

During the theft the man was challenged by a team member who has witnessed the theft.

In response the thief produced a pistol and pointed it towards the ground before he started running towards a silver Toyota Kluger that was parked at the location.

Police were called and are investigating the incident.

Police are calling for anyone with information concerning the theft to contact detectives at Macquarie Fields, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
