Gerry Knights is very proud of the softball squad of the South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS).

As the executive director of the academy, Mr Knights says the softball team is “one of our strongest representative groups’’.

He proudly points to Blake Jackson, Jorja Barrett, Harrison Pudner and Breanna Evans, who have all worn the green and gold jerseys of Australia in softball.

“Nine members of the current squad will play at the National Championships this year,’’ Mr Knights said.

“Then they will return to prepare for the prestigious Waverly Easter Tournament in Victoria, followed by the Clubs NSW Academy Games Challenge in the Hunter region.’’

Now these players – as well as future academy softball champions – have received a significant funding boost, thanks to the generosity of Elderton Homes.

The company has announced that it will sponsor the 25 member SWSAS softball squad.

The funds will be used to purchase new tournament jerseys and provide essential training equipment for their 2018 campaigns.

Mr Knights was ecstatic about having Elderton Homes on board as a sponsor of the softball squad.

“I am just so pleased that a well respected community focused organisation like Elderton Homes has joined the academy and provided valuable financial assistance,’’ Mr Knights said.

John Castellano, the general manager – sales and marketing for Elderton Homes, said: “SWSAS this year celebrates its 20th anniversary as one of the premier sports academies in NSW, an achievement the Macarthur region should be very proud of.

“Sport plays a significant role in the growth and development of young people and we look forward to watching the softball team’s progress throughout the 2018 season.”
