One of Australia’s best known nutrition and healthy lifestyle experts, Dr Joanna McMillan, has been named Campbelltown’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2016.

A regular on the Nine Network, including being the official nutritionist for the Today show, Dr McMillan is also the author of several books, has a weekly column in Sunday Life and writes for several magazines and online blogs.

She is the founder of Get Lean, a website dedicated to helping people achieve a healthier lifestyle, and is a proud ambassador for Diabetes Australia and The Skin and Cancer Foundation.

Originally from Scotland, Dr McMillan made Australia her home in 1999 when she won a scholarship to complete a PhD in nutritional science from the University of Sydney.

She has studied psychology, has a Bachelor Degree in Science with First Class Honours in Nutrition and Dietetics, and has worked as a fitness instructor for more than 15 years.

This gives Dr McMillan a unique holistic approach to health and wellbeing, balanced by her own down-to-earth and practical style.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said that he looked forward to welcoming Dr McMillan to Campbelltown as part of the city’s Australia Day celebrations.

“Dr McMillan is one of Australia’s best-known nutrition and healthy lifestyle experts, and I think many locals will be excited to hear her speak and maybe even grab an autograph,” Cr Hawker said.

“Council’s Australia Day events will be an exciting and uplifting experience for residents of all ages, and I encourage everyone to join in the celebrations,” Cr Hawker said.

Each year, the Australia Day Ambassador Program sees more than 150 inspirational Australians speak about what it means to be Australian at events across the state.

The concept started here in NSW in 1990 with just nine Ambassadors and has since grown into a national program.

Campbelltown’s Australia Day celebrations will kick off with official proceedings in Koshigaya Park from 8am to 10am.

The park will come to life again from 4pm to 9.30pm with rides, stalls and an entertainment line-up for the whole family.

Celebrations will also be held at Greg Percival Community Centre and adjacent Hallinan Park in Ingleburn from 11am to 2pm.
