Building sites and their hoardings aren’t pretty, but thanks to a collaboration between Campbelltown City Council and students from South Western Sydney Institute (SWSi) of TAFE, they can be photogenic.

Using the theme “Live, Work, Play and Invest’’ as their inspiration, students studying the Diploma of Photo Imaging course were commissioned by council to beautify the hoarding on the Kellicar Road side of the Macarthur Square development site, with a photographic display promoting Campbelltown.

The design project was identified by the centre’s managers, Lend Lease, together with council as an opportunity to showcase what Campbelltown means to the local community.

Council co-ordinated the project and Lend Lease generously agreed to cover the cost of printing and installing the images.

The photographic decals will be in place for approximately 18 months, until the redevelopment is complete.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, congratulated the students for contributing a vibrant display of photographs which showcased Campbelltown’s unique attractions and rich and diverse community.

“The students have gained valuable experience working with council on a major project, and now have the opportunity to display their work on a prominent and high profile canvas.

“The Macarthur Square expansion is a much anticipated project and with the community eagerly watching the site for progress, the hoarding provides an excellent chance to promote the wonderful lifestyle our city offers,” Cr Hawker said.

Students from SWSi TAFE have previously partnered with council on other city enhancement projects, including the Exeloo Decal Design Project that saw students create designs to beautify the facades of new public amenity buildings in parks and reserves in the across city.
