Police are asking motorists to slow down on our roads.

Police have been called to investigate after a man presented himself at a service station at Rossmore with a gunshot wound overnight.

Just after 11pm (Sunday, December 27), a man arrived at a service station on Bringelly Road, Rossmore, with a gunshot wound to his right leg.

Police have been told a number of shots were also fired at the vehicle he was driving.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his injury, including where it occurred, are continuing.

♦ In a separate incident, police are investigating a single vehicle crash at Greendale overnight.

About 12am (Monday, December 28), emergency services were called to Wolstenholme Avenue, following reports a vehicle had rolled.

The 55-year-old male driver was taken to Liverpool Hospital with head injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.

Officers from Penrith Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

♦ A total of 11 people have lost their lives on the state’s roads during Operation Arrive Alive, now in its 10th day.

After day 9, police say there have been:

• 8052 speed infringements;

• 368,855 breath tests;

• 526 PCA charges;

• 828 major crashes.

The Commander of the state’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Assistant Commissioner John Hartley, called for motorists to exercise extreme caution.

“We are seeing far too many tragedies play out on the road,” Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.

“We’re in the midst of a busy season on the roadway and it only takes a brief lapse in concentration for a regular commute or trip to turn into a nightmare.

“Motorists need to drive to the conditions and within the limits of the law.

“That means no speeding, no mobile phone use, no alcohol and no drugs.”
