Community effort: Mr Warren with Mt Annan High students who took part in his Christmas toy drive for children in domestic violence homes.

A big pile of around 150 wrapped toys takes up a big chunk of the electorate office of Greg Warren, the member for Campbelltown.

Some time today members of Macarthur Gateway – a local women’s support group for victims of domestic violence – will drop by his Queen Street office to pick up the gifts and begin the best part of a Christmas toy drive – delivering them to local kids.

As Mr Warren explains, the children who will receive the gifts are ones caught up in the miserable experience of domestic violence.

“That’s why I decided to organise a Christmas toy drive,’’ says Mr Warren.

“These children are in a terribly sad situation. These gifts won’t change that but it may bring a smile to their face at Christmas so it’s worth doing,’’ he said.

Mr Warren won’t be taking part in delivering the gifts to homes around Campbelltown because “I don’t want to make this about me’’.

“I want the focus to be on these kids.’’

Mr Warren would prefer the world knows that the success of the toy drive  was the result of hard work by a lot of people in our generous town.

“Students of Mt Annan High got behind the drive, for example, but so did Macarthur Square, Trevi Hairdressing salon, Anytime Fitness and St Vincent de Paul, who provided a drop off point for gifts.

“It was a real community effort.’’

A community effort that will mean around 150 kids in domestic violence homes will receive toys for Christmas.
