MP Melanie Gibbons has welcomed the completion of stage one of the extension of the commuter carpark at Holsworthy station.

The western car park extension at Holsworthy station was completed and opened for business this week.

It means that as it’s completion of the first stage of the project it represents a significant step towards providing more than 400 new car parking spaces for commuters at Holsworthy station.

Completion of stage one also got a big tick from local MP, the State Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons.

“I know how vital this project is for customers so I’m delighted to see that stage one is now complete,’’ Ms Gibbons said.

“We can now turn our attention to stage two – extending the eastern car park – with work to get under way immediately and I expect that all 400 new spaces will be available to customers by mid next year,” the MP said.

The Holsworthy car park project includes construction of additional parking levels on the multi storey car parks off The Boulevarde, a new lift, extension of an existing lift and additional wayfinding.

“We will continue to minimise disruption to commuters as much as possible,’’ Ms Gibbons said.

“While there are now many new spaces available in the western car park, some spaces will soon be temporarily closed in the eastern car park to enable the construction of new levels.

All work is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to deliver accessible, modern, secure and integrated transport infrastructure.

Ms Gibbons says South West Sydney has benefited from a significant investment under the program, including two brand new car parks at Liverpool Station, providing more than 100 spaces and the conversion of 12 rail staff car parking spaces to commuter spaces at Holsworthy Station.

A new car park providing more than 100 new commuter spaces was opened in Padstow early this year.

In addition, the new Leppington and Edmondson Park stations provide 1,250 commuter car parking spaces for customers.
