Almost 10 years ago, Esther Adeyinka was among the winners of the 2014 Zonta Club of Macarthur annual awards, which recognize exceptional female high school students across South Western Sydney.
Ms Adeyinka, now a lawyer in a commercial law firm, sits on the Department of Home Affairs NSW Youth Reference Group and advises the NSW Regional Director on youth matters.
Last week Ms Adeyinka was the guest speaker at the 2023 awards dinner and presentation.
The wonderful achievements of 13 young Macarthur women were recognised at this year’s awards.
The winner of the Zonta Club’s 2023 Young Woman in Public Affairs award was Arooj Mohammed, who attends Liverpool Girls High School.
“Her achievements and dedication to her studies were highly commended,’’ a Zonta spokesperson said.
Jemima Rawcliffe, from Elizabeth Macarthur High School, was the runner up this year.
Claire Stanley (Elderslie High School) and Hannah Green (Elizabeth Macarthur High School) were equal third in this category of the award.
Jade Hughes, from Leumeah High School, was the winner of the Zonta Club’s 2023 Achievement Award for a Young Indigenous Woman.
“Jade has shown outstanding leadership, active community involvement and academic achievement,’’ read the citation.
Other finalists for this category, who received recognition for commitment to their studies, were Alaiyah Williams (Bossley Park High School), Jasmyne Hambley (Broughton Anglican College), Kiarah Francis (Elderslie High School), Grace Davidson (Picton High School), Michellie Bevis (John Edmondson High School), Evie McPherson (Leumeah High School) and Tyiesha Hair (Leumeah High School).
Simran Prasad, a student at Western Sydney University, was named Zonta Club’s 2023 Jane M Klausman Women in Business Scholarship beneficiary.
