The Party People are bringing a world first to Macarthur from next Monday: a pilot using augmented reality mirrors – with checkout functionality.

The pilot, which will run for the rest of the month, will be activated on the top floor of Macarthur Square, near Coles and between The Shed and Delifrance.

Dean Salakas, Chief Party Dude at The Party People, says shoppers will be able to turn into their favourite Disney or Marvel character as part of the pilot.

More than 100 of Mega Party Warehouse’s best selling costumes will be available to choose from until October 31.

Two mirrors with augmented reality and one shoppable screen will be deployed as part of the pilot at Macarthur Square.

“Augmented reality mirrors do exist around the world, however none have checkout functionality, so this is a world first,’’ says Mr Salakas.

“The mirror is planned to be the new way for customers to shop fashion, avoiding lengthy queues and hassle with store physical change rooms.

“Our pilot at Macarthur Square will be fun for the whole family to come along and transform into their favourite superhero, character or something scary through augmented reality,’’ he said.

The official launch will take place between 9am and 11am next Monday, October 9.

“I have said when speaking at events, I don’t know how many costumes this might sell but that’s what the trial is for,’’ says the Chief Party Dude.

“To learn how customer use it and how they purchase.  I have learned in my experience with innovation, that customers are going to do things with this that I haven’t thought of yet, so I am excited to see what we learn from the trial.”

“If the pilot is successful, we plan to roll out a set of mirrors in every shopping mall in Australia next year and then look to scale it around the world,’’ says Mr Salakas.

The augmented reality mirror can be used several ways, including as its own pop up store, on dead space like a wall or in a shop window to enable window shopping – literally.

“This has the potential to bring online only retailers like The Iconic or Showpo into shopping malls,’’ he says.
