At 5pm police will address the media in a bid to appeal for information after the death of a child and injuries to at least four people when a truck crashed into cars at a rest area on the Hume Highway at Menangle this afternoon.
One of the injured is in a critical condition.
Camden Police Area Commander, Acting Superintendent Darren Sly, will talk to the media from 5pm at the Frank Partridge Rest Area.
Police say a child died and at least four people were injured in the incident.
Just after 3pm emergency services were called to a rest area southbound on the Hume Highway, following reports a B-double crashed into several parked cars.
A young girl died at the scene.
At least four people were also injured and treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital.
A woman is in a critical condition while the others are reported to be in serious but stable condition.
The male truck driver was not injured and will be taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers from Camden Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
