The Liverpool community will commemorate The Great War and ANZAC centenary next month with a diverse program of activities planned at the Liverpool Regional Museum on Saturday, September 13.
“With the centenary of The Great War and the ANZAC legend upon us, it’s important that we reflect as a community on these significant events and remember the sacrifices of our servicemen and women,” said Liverpool City Mayor Ned Mannoun.
“Liverpool has strong links to this significant part of our nation’s history, with the first battalions of the 1st Brigade training here in 1914 – many of those soldiers went on to fight at ANZAC Cove,” nhe saidf.
“The Liverpool Regional Museum has a great program planned to commemorate these important historic events on September 13 and I’m confident the day will appeal not only to history and military buffs, but to the entire family.”
Highlights include:
The Australian Light Horse to arrive in marching order to show how soldiers went to war;
Live music from the Liverpool Brass Band, who will play marching tunes and war songs;
Historical talk by State Library of NSW representative;
A display of military vehicles including a 1916 model Ford;
A live blank-firing demonstration from the 18th Battalion Living History Group;
Re-enactments that will provide an insight into the life of soldiers during WWI;
Professional valuer and antiques dealer, Ken Buxton will provide valuations on items (for a small fee).
