The “Staying Connected’’ workshop is an opportunity for local seniors to learn about the activities and services that are available which help keep them connected within the community.

Campbelltown City Council, in partnership with the Whiddon Group and Macarthur Disability Services, will host “Staying Connected’’ this Wednesday.

The workshop will offer a mix of information sharing and audience participation, and will focus on discussing ideas and initiatives that have been successful in other countries.

The connection between seniors’ health and loneliness will be highlighted when the workshop examines the topic of social isolation, and how older residents can stay connected.

Social interaction and relationships are widely regarded as necessary for good health and well being, with research showing that social isolation is as damaging to our health as smoking.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said council was committed to working with seniors, and local seniors’ organisations, to enable them to voice their concerns, discuss local issues and involve them in community projects.

The Staying Connected workshop is supported by Argyle Housing, Land and Housing Corporation, Macarthur Diversity Services Initiative and South West Sydney Local Health District.

Light refreshments will be served.

Bookings are essential.
