Task: This is some of the graffiti to be removed this Sunday at Glenfield’s Kennett Park

Here’s an invitation with a difference: Campbelltown City Council wants residents to roll up their sleeves and help smarten up the town’s appearance by helping to remove graffiti.

So, if you live in the Campbelltown LGA you’re all invited to participate in this Sunday’s “Graffiti Removal Day’’ – part of a state wide graffiti removal and prevention campaign.

On that day local volunteers will be heading to two key local sites: Fisher’s Ghost underpass at Bradbury and Kennett Park, Glenfield.

There they will be able to join other keen locals in graffiti removal and painting activities.

Graffiti Removal Day is a joint initiative between the NSW Government and Rotary Down Under, which aims to both highlight the problem of graffiti and encourage people to volunteer their time to remove and prevent it.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said that graffiti vandalism costs the Campbelltown community thousands of dollars each year.

“We want to maintain a clean, welcoming city by reducing the incidence of graffiti and removing it promptly when it does occur,” Cr Hawker said.

“As part of our ongoing campaign to reduce the impact of graffiti, council has two graffiti action teams working daily across the Local Government Area.

“We also provide free graffiti removal kits for residents or local business owners affected by graffiti vandalism.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“A combined local effort gets the best results, and council has developed partnerships with local police, community groups and government agencies to help combat graffiti across our city.[/social_quote]

“The annual Graffiti Removal Day initiative gives residents an opportunity to get involved too,” Cr Hawker said.

Graffiti Removal Day activities across the state are hosted by Rotary Down Under, with the support of councils and community organisations including Scouts Australia, Girl Guides NSW & ACT, Police Citizens and Youth Clubs and Australian Men’s Shed Association.

Anyone over the age of 12, with the ability to clean, can volunteer to participate.

All materials and equipment will be provided, along with drinking water – all volunteers need is a can do attitude!
