Ablaze: Smoke is billowing out of the Leumeah station shops just after 6am this morning with four fire crews working to extinguish it. Five people had to be evacuated from their first floor units above the Dollar Discounts store.

One woman was rushed to Campbelltown Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation after fire broke out in the Dollar Discounts store below from where she lived in Leumeah early this morning.

She was one of five people who were evacuated from units above the shops where the fire was at its fiercest just before 6am.

Four fire crews responded to calls on the fire in the shops complex, which are directly located opposite Leumeah Railway station on the western side and the Club Hotel to the south.

Commuters had to use the western side to gain access to the rail station for about two hours as fire crews battled the blaze.

However access to the station from the eastern side was restored an hour ago, despite some radio reports advising their listeners to continue using the western side only.

Police have now cordoned off the site as Fire & Rescue NSW crews continued the mopping up operations in and around the building.

The Dollar Discounts store faces south and is on the right edge of the building – the last shop in the complex.

But there are shops to its left and one or two suffered some smoke damage.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
