When Murphy’s Law strikes and Stella’s beyond the Pale Ale

2015-08-13 12.45.25They say timing is everything in life and I couldn’t agree more.

It was proved to me once again today when I dropped into my favourite grog shop to restock the day cellar I use at home to store my wine.

Seeing as my favourite Belgian, Stella, was on special, I also popped around to the ale section to pick up a case – and ran into the sign you see in the attached picture.

Regaining my composure so as not to seem too eager, I asked Dan Murphy, or at least the guy working for him, when the beer tasting would start.

He turned at me with a look of pity and gently said: Sorry, mate, we’ve had it and I am just packing it all away. Darn it, I thought, my timing’s out again and Murphy’s Law has struck again as well.

In case you don’t know what Murphy’s Law is it suggests that sometimes if something’s meant to go wrong it will almost definitely will.

Oh well, such is life, so why don’t we just relax and look at which is our favorite beer and where it comes from, our Top 5 beers as it were:

Number 1: After suffering many, many hangovers over 20 years, the old Victoria Bitter was given the flick. I reckon I tried 200 beers – a man has to suffer for his art and all that – to find a replacement.  Coopers Pale Ale. Nothing comes even close for me, summer or winter.

Stella_Artois_current_logo_2015Number 2. Except maybe Hahns Premium Lager. Which is another great Aussie beer. Especially if it’s on special.

Number 3. Last 10 years a lot of beer drinkers have tried foreign brews because sometimes they’re cheaper than local brands. One of them is the Mexican Corona, a very refreshing beer, although it needs a wedge of lime to complete it. What’s doing there, amigos?

Number 4. Over dinner at his place, a former mayor of Campbelltown introduced me to north European beers like Stella Artois, before giving me a lecture about the perils of over indulging. Can’t believe I still remember that last bit considering how many of those very, very highly alcoholic beverages we consumed.

Number 5: You’ve got your Peronis from Italy, Becks and Heinekens from Holland, but my heartstrings tug for an ale from the old country (Hellas map is at top, right hand corner) and a chilled Mythos washes down a yeeros from Kingsgrove station like nothing else. Cheers.
