This Friday night Muriel’s Wedding, an Australian film classic, will be the star as Casula Powerhouse arts centre continues celebrating 21 years of existence.
The 1994 Australian romantic comedy drama film was written and directed by P. J. Hogan.
Muriel’s Wedding, which stars Toni Collette, focuses on the socially awkward Muriel whose ambition is to have a glamorous wedding and improve her personal life by moving from her dead end home town, the fictional Porpoise Spit, to Sydney.
The film received multiple award nominations, including a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (Collette).
And it has rightly taken its place among the all time great Aussie flicks.
Now Casula Powerhouse says it is thrilled to present this Friday, October 2 – as part of its Sydney Film Festival season – the fun, sing-along version of Muriel’s Wedding.
It will be one of the highlights of 21st birthday celebrations of the arts centre by the Georges River, not least because the audience will be able to sing along such ABBA classics as Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Waterloo, Fernando, and I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do.
But the fun of this night out doesn’t end with singing along to such timeless hits: Dress in your best 1990s, Muriel’s Wedding inspired costumes and you could win some special prizes.
