The wettest March in 30 years has delayed work on construction of Narellan Sports Hub.
The extended periods of rain have interrupted building of the $10.15 million stage one of the project, which includes an amenities building, 30 netball courts and 400 car parking spaces.
Camden Council says it’s working with Camden and District Netball Association to ensure that the 2017 district netball competition will run to schedule.
Over the next couple of weeks council will be upgrading several courts at Kirkham Netball Complex to accommodate the start of the local competition.
Council has been in regular contact with the netball association providing project updates.
“We really appreciate netball’s understanding and are doing everything we can to get the project finished as soon as possible in the trying weather conditions,” says Mayor Lara Symkowiak.
“Council will be fixing courts at Kirkham over the next couple of weeks to ensure the season can begin smoothly at that location.
“We have also offered any help to netball with their move once the sports hub is ready.
Camden and District Netball Association president, Karen Williams, says that the outcome was the best possible solution to ensure this season’s competition gets under way on time.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“We are excited to get the next season started and are looking forward to using the new facilities when they become available,” Ms Williams said.[/social_quote]
“We understand that the delay in opening the new courts is out of Camden Council’s control and that they will be ready as soon as possible,” she said.
The construction completion dates are being reviewed and will be made public as soon as possible.
