Welcome aboard: Some of the new registered nurses starting out their careers at Cambelltown Hospital.

More than 130 registered nurses and midwives will begin their careers across South Western Sydney Local Health District as part of the 2017 Transition to Practice Program (TPP).

Campbelltown Hospital nursing and midwifery services acting director Scott Metcalfe says those starting their careers with the hospital will work in a number of different services throughout the year.

“The program provides education and practical support to the new nurses and midwives as they start their careers at Campbelltown Hospital and put everything they’ve learned into practice,” Mr Metcalfe said.

“New nurses will mainly work in medical and surgical wards however some will specialise in chronic care, mental health and emergency care.

“The aim is to help build their skills and confidence to support the transition from being a student to an advanced beginner nurse.

“Our midwives always deliver and so will the graduates as they work alongside senior staff in delivering patient centred care to patients in our maternity service and birthing unit,” he said.

Campbelltown Hospital general manager Alison Derrett congratulated the new nurses and midwives on starting their careers with the hospital.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome all new nurses and midwives to Campbelltown Hospital and thank them for the roles they will play in caring for our patients’,” Ms Derrett said.

“We are always looking to employ skilled nurses and midwifes and we’re extremely proud to support new staff in elaborating on what they’ve learnt at university and helping them to become more confident nurses and midwives,” she said.
