Gone: Jason taylor has been sacked as Wests Tigers coach after two big losses in a row.

Wests Tigers will be holding a media conference at 5pm to discuss the board’s sacking of coach Jason Taylor earlier today.

The conference will be held in the premises of the merged entity’s biggest shareholder, Wests Ashfield Leagues Club.

Wests Tigers board chairwoman Marina Go said that this decision to terminate Taylor’s contract immediately “was not an easy one for the club to make’’.

“On behalf of everyone at Wests Tigers I’d like to thank Jason for his commitment and contribution to the club during his time as head coach,” Ms Go said.

“Jason has overseen significant change within the club over the past two seasons and we thank him for his efforts.

“Our position has always been to make sure that the head coach’s contract is tied to performance and that hasn’t changed,” she said.

“This is a challenging time for the club and Jason and we ask that we are given time to work through this process with Jason,” Ms Go said.

Current Wests Tigers assistant coach Andrew Webster will take on the role of interim head coach.

Webster returned to Wests Tigers this year after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at the New Zealand Warriors.

Webster previously worked for Wests Tigers as an assistant coach

  1. Why was Taylor not sacked at the end of last season? Most people knew he did not have the backing of the players then. During the off season a new coach could have been found and a fresh start made for the 2017 season.
