Labor candidate for Campbelltown Greg Warren says a Foley Labor Government will establish a Wests Tigers’ high-performance, community based Centre of Excellence at Campbelltown.

Labor says it will work with the Wests Tigers and Campbelltown City Council to develop the club’s plans for the Centre of Excellence.

“This is a fantastic announcement that will help to deliver an amazing piece of sporting, cultural and educational space that the Macarthur community can use and enjoy,’’ Mr Warren said.

“We love our Wests Tigers and with this co-investment they will be able to strengthen their role in our community as leaders in physical education, training and youth engagement.

“Sport in an important part of our lives – we play it, we watch it, we live it – and Labor is pleased to support the great work the game is doing in local communities.

“NRL teams form an integral part of our community – and these facilities across the state will help rugby league clubs roll out community programs.

“The Centres of Excellence are about extending professional sporting facilities as community amenities – building stronger and deeper ties between clubs and their communities. It’s really about utilising the power of rugby league to drive wider community and social benefit,” the aspiring MP said.

The promise is part of Labor’s $55 million reservation for 10 Centres of Excellence and will be a co-investment with the NRL and its clubs, local government and the private sector. The total cost to deliver 10 Centres of Excellence across NSW is $180 million.
