Wanderers kick a goal for harmony day in Liverpool

Liverpool City Council, the Western Sydney Wanderers FC and Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre are joining forces for the 2015 annual Harmony Day celebrations this Thursday, March 19 , 10am-2pm in Bigge Park.

Liverpool City Mayor, Ned Mannoun, said: This year marks the 15th anniversary of Harmony Day, a significant milestone that has gained tremendous momentum over the past few years.’’

Harmony Day is held globally to coincide with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity by promoting social inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

“It encourages us to embrace our unique qualities and share cultural traditions while gaining a better understanding of one another,” says Mayor Ned Mannoun.

“Our local event aims to bring communities together, build social cohesion, raise awareness and recognise our city’s commitment, demonstrated through our involvement in annual Harmony Day celebrations,” the Mayor said.

“Liverpool City is one of the most diverse communities in NSW and together we represent more than 150 different birthplaces making it a proud and harmonious place.

“The Western Sydney Wanderers will be bringing coaching clinics, football activities and some of the players will come down to meet our many fans in the Liverpool region,” said

John Tsatsimas, the chief executive officer of the Western Sydney Wanderers.

“This is a great event on the calendar and we are proud supporters of the Harmony Day message and fully embrace the diversity of our region.’’

“We have many new citizens joining our Liverpool family as part of the Harmony Day Citizenship Ceremony and I am looking forward to officially congratulating them on the day,” said Mayor Mannoun.

“Harmony Day in Liverpool is a beautiful day of celebration promoting awareness of the national theme “everyone belongs’’ and how proud we are to be part of such an inspiring and harmonious community.

“Let’s celebrate and showcase a sense of pride in ourselves and in our community because everyone belongs here in Liverpool,” the mayor said.
