It took nine rounds, but they have finally done it – the Camden Campbelltown Ghosts top grade side have recorded their first victory of the season.
They defeated Eastern Suburbs at Waverly Oval on Saturday after winning the toss and inviting the home side to bat first.
Easts reached 222 for the loss of nine wickets off their allotted 50 overs, with Luke Webb doing most of the damage for the visitors.
The lion hearted Ghosts fast bowler picked up three wickets for 45 off his 10 overs.
He was well supported by Jackson Isakka, who took two wickets for 42 from his 10 overs, and Ben Patterson (1 for 32 from his 10 overs),
The Ghosts had the home side reeling at 5 for 74, but couldn’t quite finish them off, allowing Easts to skip out to 222 runs.
In response, the Ghosts reached the victory target with eight balls to spare and having lost just five wickets, easily making it their best effort in the 2021-22 Sydney grade season.
Nicholas Appleton coming in at number four in the order was the pick of the batters, top scoring with 78.
His whirlwind innings lasted 111 minutes and he faced just 82 balls. He hit nine boundaries.
Opener Adam Whatley and Aaron Muir each contributed 37 runs to the Ghosts cause, with valuable contributions from Toby Flynn-Duncombe (30) and Jackson Isakka (22) (pictured).
In other cricket news, Fairfield Liverpool were thrashed by Manly in their round nine match on the weekend.
Chasing 259 for victory the Lions collapsed to be all out for 86 at Manly Oval.
That’s where Camden Campbelltown will be this Saturday for their round 10 match against the home side, hoping to make it two wins from two.
