Concept design: Melanie Gibbons and premier Mike Baird announcing the upgrade of Heathcote Road last year.

NSW Roads and Maritime Services have awarded WP Parsons Brinkerhoff the contract to develop the concept design for the upgrade of Heathcote Road.

As part of the contract the company will also review environmental factors in play for the upgrade.

State Member for Holsworthy Melanie Gibbons says the NSW Government has committed $4 million toward planning for a 2.2 kilometre upgrade of Heathcote Road between Infantry Parade, Hammondville and The Avenue, Voyager Point.

“This is the next stage in delivering on my election commitment” Ms Gibbons said.

“The upgrade would expand Heathcote Road from two lanes to four lanes and would include bridges above Harris Creek, Williams Creek and the T2 Airport Line. This will help to ease the congestion that is experienced all too often on this road.

“It is also an important thoroughfare for pedestrians and cyclists accessing Holsworthy train station and this will make it easier for them to travel between the station and their homes.

“The decision to go ahead with investigating developing the road followed consultation which showed the community supported the proposal.

“The community consultation report is available at the RMS website,’’ Ms Gibbons said.

“Thank you to everyone who gave their opinion on the upgrade – It has helped form a much better and safer road.

“Roads and Maritime will progress the concept design, as well as the REF and carrying out an environmental impact assessment for the proposal.

“This work is expected to be delivered by late 2016,” Ms Gibbons said.
