Meet a local French connection: East Campbelltown Eagles Rugby League Club has formed a relationship with two French clubs, Louves Villefranche and Cahors Blue Devils.

The Eagles have hooked up with the French so that some of their young local talent may get the chance to head to Europe to play in the French Rugby league competition.

One such player, Amanono Tovio, recently made his debut for the French club Villefranche 13 and made an immediate impact on his debut games for the Wolves.

Amonono scored a try in the match, but it was his solid defence that caught the eye of the French as his huge hit on his opposite number resulted in a dropped ball and led to a Villefranche try and eventual victory.

Villefranche defeated Carpentras 22-14.

Amanono Tovio played with East Campbelltown Eagles as a junior.

He has been exceptional value for the Eagles in the Bundaberg Cup and Sydney Shield.

An exciting fullback and a very versatile player with his ability to play every position in the backline, he will be a great addition to the Villefranche club.

East Campbelltown Eagles life member Daniel Draper said: “It’s great to see our players playing in France.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“We have had players from our club such as Michael Stevens, Leigh Middlemiss and Mason Talolua given an opportunity to live in another county, learn its culture and language while playing the game they love.[/social_quote]

“It really is a fantastic opportunity for all these players.

“And for our club it’s a great relationship.

“I’m very grateful to the French clubs for giving our players such a great experience.”
