The future is here: visit the nbn connect roadshow at Macarthur Square and Campbelltown Mall over the next few days.

Campbelltown has become one of the first areas in the greater metro Sydney area to experience the benefits of fast and reliable broadband, following the official switch on of the National Broadband Network (NBN) network in the area.

More than 5,200 homes and businesses are now able to connect, with physical construction also under way in neighbouring areas to activate another 11,900 homes and businesses.

Mayor Paul Hawker will officially welcome the NBN to the region at 11am on Monday, November 16 at Macarthur Square, where the company has set up a display as part of an information roadshow.

“The arrival of the NBN in Campbelltown is great news for residents and business owners alike, and reinforces our position as the capital of the Macarthur region,’’ says Cr Hawker.

“With so much activity in the region, the commissioning of the NBN will enable Campbelltown to develop as a hub for innovation.

Kelly Stevens, NBN spokesperson, said: “The rollout of the NBN is gaining momentum across the country, providing homes and businesses with access to internet speeds and bandwidth that will allow them to compete on a national and global stage professionally and undertake key internet based tasks at home with ease.

“A recent report, Super Connected Jobs, developed by KPMG and commissioned by NBN, explores how the potential for universal access to fast broadband can shape the future Aussie workforce and liberate employees from the confines of set working hours or places.

“It predicts significant growth and transformation in existing jobs such as beauty therapists and personal trainers as well as a changing perception for  stereotypically ‘geek’ jobs such as computer programmers and  high tech start-ups which will become less niche and more mainstream,” said Stevens.

Campbelltown residents join nearly 1.4 million across Australia that are currently able to enjoy the benefits of fast and reliable broadband through the NBN. NSW continues to lead the way with more than 378,000 homes and businesses able to make the switch.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Fast and reliable broadband has the potential to fuel growth and drive improvements to local economies, businesses and homes, bringing new opportunities to the whole country,” Stevens said.[/social_quote]

Residents and businesses in the Campbelltown area who have questions about whether they can connect, how they go about making the switch, or simply discovering the benefits of the NBN are encouraged to visit the nbn connect roadshow at Macarthur Square during November 13-22.

The Q&A Kiosk will be open 9am to 5pm, November 13 to 22.

A seniors coffee morning will be held on Thursday, November 19, 10-12 noon.

Family day on November 13 and 14 and again November 20-21, 10am to 2pm.

♦ Campbelltown Mall will also host a Q&A kiosk during November 16 and 22, 9am to 5pm.

You can find  out whether you are eligible to connect to the NBN as well as more information about the areas scheduled to complete the transition to the network by visiting the company’s website here.
