Camden Council is calling on residents to take the pledge on single use plastics during Keep Australia Beautiful Week.
With more than 50 years of experience, Keep Australia Beautiful work to change the behaviours and attitudes of individuals, regarding litter and recycling, sustainability and environmental issues.
This year, Australians are encouraged to pledge to refuse single use plastics, to stop it from becoming litter.
Council has also joined RecycleSmart, which gives residents the opportunity to recycle items that can’t be disposed of in the yellow bins. Residents can download the Recyclepedia App which allows them to know what and where to recycle.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said it was important to look after our environment as every little action can make a big difference.
“We need to protect our beautiful country, which can be done by making smarter choices, such as stopping the use of single use plastic,” Cr Fedeli said.
“It is disturbing to hear that plastic can take up to 500 years to decompose, whilst also harming animals who ingest it in the meantime.
“Keep Australia Beautiful has a pledge on their website that allows you to commit to no longer utilising single use plastics.
“Residents are able to organise a Power PickUp through the RecycleSmart website, which takes care of the ‘tough-to-recycle’ items.
“If we all work together by spreading awareness and playing our part, we will start to see little changes, and every small step counts!”
